With the success of the Beatles first two albums "Please Please Me", and "With the Beatles" came the start of an ever lasting "epidemic" known as Beatlemainia. Conquering all of England and Europe, with huge success. The Beatles were about  to make one of their biggest dreams come true. To conquer America, and to stay successful. Unfortunately this would end up not being terribly easy. They sent over to America many of the singles that were hits in Europe, but end up being turned down by the record companies in America. In the summer of 1963 the Beatles all took some time off, and go on vacation. Paul and Ringo went to Greece, John and his wife Cynthia went to Paris, and George and his brother Peter went to visit their older sister Louise in America. While he was visiting he was able to enjoy just going places, seeing and doing things that weren't available in England.
Like going to a drive-in, or a fast food place. He also played live with one of the local bands. Louise remembered that people were not paying much attention to the band. But when they guys asked George to play he got up and started singing the only songs he and the rest of the band knew. As soon as he started singing people suddenly got interested in the band wondering what was going on, and were really getting into the band and asking them to play more. The house is now a Bed and Breakfast, called Hard Days Nite. So you can sleep in the same house that George did when he first came to America.

About six months after George's first visit to America, the Beatles land at John F. Kennedy Airport on February 7th, 1964. Two days later they were to make there American television debut on the Ed Sullivan Show. It almost didn't happen at all John was so nervous that he was said to have needed the set list taped to his guitar, and George had gotten a really bad sore throat. During the Beatles first few days in New York. George was given a Rickenbacker 12 string guitar. It was the second of a new series of 12 string that appeared to look more like a six string. Soon after the Beatles first tour of America they started on their first movie A Hard Days Night. During the making of A Hard Day's Night, George met his future wife Pattie Boyd who was playing one of the school girls, and would marry later in 1966. During the making of the Beatles film HELP! George became intrigued in a new instrument called a sitar. Soon after he bought his own, and a few albums by a sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar. The sitar would become one of George's greatest contributions to the Beatles unique ever changing sound. The sitar was first featured on the Beatles album Rubber Soul in the song "Norwegian Wood", and again a year later on Revolver for the song "Love You Too" which George says was written specifically for the sitar.

January 21st 1966 George married model Pattie Boyd. In the sixties they were seen as one of the ideal celebrity couples, he was a famous rock star and she a model. However, 1966 was not a great time for the Beatles and took a real toll on them. They were sent numerous death threats in the American south from the John's bigger than Jesus comment. Caused riots and demonstrations in Japan for playing at the Budo Kan Hall, and were nearly killed in Manila the Philippines because they didn't show up at a dinner hosted by Imelda Marcos the Prime Ministers wife. In August 29th 1966 the Beatles played at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. It would be the last time the Beatles played live together in America. Soon after the Beatles stopped touring they each took some time off each going and doing their own thing. Paul went and did a movie score for the movie "The Family Way," John went to Spain to star in the movie "How I Won the War," Ringo, goes and meets him. George and Pattie go to India, to learn meditation and to learn the sitar from Ravi Shankar who he had become friends with.

In late 1966 early 67, the beatles were no longer touring, and had no mention of any releases to come with in the next six months or so everyone thought. During this time the Beatles were working on their new album, bringing in songs from all different areas. John and Paul had written songs about memories from their child hood in Liverpool.as well as various things from either the newspapers or from other sources of "insperation" that they were experimenting with. Whilst George wrote a song using both eastern and western musicians. This album is Sgt. Peppers Lonly Hearts Club Band, or as most of us call it today simply Sgt. Pepper. Sgt Pepper revolutionized the way a record was made and could sound. Unlike all the previous Beatles records this one was less general, none of the songs apart from Sgt. Pepper and the repreise had no such reference to the theme or Sgt. Pepper. Soon following the release of Sgt. Pepper the Beatles lead by George and Pattie went to Bangor Wales to listen to a lecture being given buy a guy called Maharishi Mehesh Yogi. Where they learned about meditation and all those type of things. While they were there they found out their manager Brian Epstien had died due to an overdose. From what I recently heard from when I was in Liverpool last year, that there were many things that may have led to Brian's death. One was the pressure he endured when the Beatles single Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane failed to make it to No. 1, plus he was taking some medication to help calm his nerves and such. The Beatle went right back to London, the pay respects and all that. The Beatles first major project with out Brian was thier film and album Magical Mystery Tour. The film was released on December 26th 1967 Boxing day, and was shown in Black and White. This was the Beatles first ever project to not be a success.
